When in Albuquerque this is a for sure visit and has been for many years was a young man then ,going there forty plus years a real New Mexican Treasure , my family loves it
Yes, you can purchase enchilada casseroles. Medium and large are available.
Breakfast all day, yes...but with one caveat: pancakes and cereal are not served past 11am, but all the egg dishes, etc are served all day long.
This is a true New Mexican food STAPLE. I had the chicken enchiladas with Pasole and my buddy had the carne adovada plate. Both were so damn delicious!!
Red chili chicharron burrito was one of the best burritos I've ever had! Amazing servers and amazing New Mexican food! You'll love it!
The absolute best Mexican food. We had breakfast there and hope to be able to get back there before we leave Albuquerque.
Used to be a favorite. It's obviously a bother the last few visits for them to have customers. Got it.
Awesome, authentic food! Our waitress has been here for 29 years; nicest person who made us feel welcome.
I can't remember what day I went in but I didn't have to wait to be seated, I ordered food right away and it was delicious! The service is excellent! My waitress was very nice and attentive. I will be going back!
Good food and respectful service.
Barelas coffee shop. Albuquerque. My go to breakfast house when I’m in Albuquerque. This morning carne adovada, eggs hashbrowns red chili tortilla and cicherones
This place gets a 5 due to my wife. I was thinking 4, but she says her cappuccino was on point, and abobada was the best she's ever had. I made her a red convert too, as she was going go green (she's never ate in New Mexico!)Mine was ok, I dunno what that hamburger pictured was supposed to be. The coffee was decent, nothing to write home about.
Barelas is a hidden gem. Hug Patty, she is amazing. Much love for their food and service.
So, Barelas is not bad. I definitely don't understand the hype or excitement over it. And I can't understand why it's a go-to for travelers. The food is okay, the Chile isn't quite my favorite (especially the way the red chile is prepared). While I've eaten here a few times, I can't think of anything special, great, or memorable other than I didn't like the chile.
Disgustingfood didn't have no flavor you got to have no taste buds to eat in that place disappointing they should burn the place down
First time here, highly recommend. Good service and very good food.
Great new Mexican food for a good price. And it's a cultural Landmark. Enough said
Wonderful, the food, the court yard. The service.
The best Chicharróns and chips & salsa. Their breakfast items are always a win.
Really great tasting food! Also prompt, friendly service and a pleasant, casual atmosphere like the coffee shops/diners of old. Literally some if the best, freshest salsa and green chile in town!
The BEST northern NM style restaurant in ABQ. The menudo and chicharones were fantastic. The wait staff was super friendly and made our dine-in experience great.
Always the best. No better in town! Awesome chili and tortillas and the chicharones are hands down best in Albuquerque!
Barelas is one of the best New Mexican food restaurants in Albuquerque! The food and the service are both great, and you have a choice of eating inside, or outside in the patio! The only complaint is that they close at 3 everyday and closed Sunday. This is the only place to go if you like menudo, too (you have to know how to cook it)! Go with time because you might have to wait, especially during the lunch hour!! My family has been going there for over 20 years and we've never been disappointed!! I hope this review helps you decide to try this place, because once you do, Barelas will become a favorite of yours too!! Enjoy!!😇
Amazing customer service. Everyone was so sweet and inviting 💓
The red and green chile are both excellent.I felt the Green Chile what is a little too liquid for enchiladas. But would be excellent in green chili soup. They're homemade tortillas are excellent. They are only $3.25 per dozen at the register.
A must try for any local or tourist. The place is typically busy so expect a short wait. The food is amazing, chile is fresh and flavorful. Fresh homemade tortillas, I recommend a side of chicharrones to accompany your meal.
Great customer service and great local New Mexican food with very large portions. Overall very good👍
I had the Huevos Ranchos and my boyfriend had the Carne Adovado and Eggs for breakfast! We had great service and the food was good!!
Great food worth the long wait line.
Quaint breakfast and lunch spot with delicious comfort food. If you want to taste authentic New Mexico cuisine, eat here.
Always friendly staff. Food is always delicious. Great prices. Plenty of food
I admire this spot! They provide sensational dishes, their menu is nice, The chef in that place is a real pro, I like very much eating all their dishes. The food is consistently good, the service towards the visitors is friendly. I visit often this place and I not even once was discontended. I highly recommend it.
Great NM greasy spoon with perhaps the most famous chichrrones in the U.S. The place is also famous for power-breakfasts, and power-lunches amongst the political elite and other power-brokers.
Food was ok. I asked for a bean and cheese taco and they gave me a crispy taco with beans, cheese and lettuce, I was expecting (like back home in texas) refried beans and cheese on a flour tortilla... disappointed, but I do have to say, service there was excellent!!
The food here is great and reasonably priced. I recommend getting the red chile, very good. Be aware that they are closed on Sundays.
Menudo was bomb and the tortillas are delicious. Staff was friendly.
Great chile. True New Mexican cuisine.
Absolutely greatest suggestion from our friends. Barela's is hands down the taste of New Mexico. Thank you for bringing back memories and making my taste buds feel alive!
This downtown restaurant is very popular as the long standing chile parlor in the historic Route 66 neighborhood. I found out about this place while on the city tour and our tour guide kept mentioning how good this place was and locals as well as presidents such as Obama have visited this place during their time in New Mexico. The place is big but has a small-stuffing feel because of its old/unkept decor and low ceilings. The service was not that great because our server wasn't listening to our order - we had ordered chicken enchiladas and she brought out pork instead. We had asked if we could get coke and it came after we reminded her twice. Also, turns out that almost all their food has pork. And their food, overall, is quite tasteless. The tortillas that come with every order were delicious, however, and looked homemade. And, the coffee I had ordered was amazing - strong flavor and smooth. As per the name of this place, they should stick to serving up their delicious coffee.
Old school restaurant. Good food. Only complaint is that I wish they cooked with more salt.
Roll out the barrel for blissful and beaming Barela’s. Stop when you’re hungry, stop, when you’re not. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, you’ll fill your barrel with friendly service, good food, and great company as you will find many New Mexicans and out of towners. The huevos rancheros, red and green chile, rellenos, chimichangas, adovada, enchiladas, menudo, or posole are filling with homemade flour tortillas that come out in different shapes even one shaped like the state of New Mexico. The collection crosses you see at the entrance means you are at the right place and blessed. The price is right!
This was my first time eating there and it was very good, the whole staff was very polite, friendly and welcoming, it was also very clean. Just a nice environment, LOVE IT 💘
The service was sooo good! I felt welcome and very much attended to! 5 starts on service!! The coffee was very abundant and delicious! Not to mention the huevos rancheros deluxe plate, OMG, that green sauce was the perfect spice and flavor, everything was EXQUISITE!! A must if you're in the area!
So to start off their food in theory is decent. However. All their chili is made with pork. Red and green. You can have the option of chopped green chili, however that is very inconvenient for someone that doesn't eat pork or meat for that matter. They are not accommodating enough to have a batch of red chili without pork? Or meat? That's crazy to me. For that they are receiving a low review and I will not be back or recommend this place for that matter.
Every time when I'm Downtown, My Friend takes me there for lunch, He likes the food and the friendly sounds of people enjoying themselves, same here. Like the food. The employees are nice too. Just all round good.
Very delicious and very AUTHENTIC! Great customer service as well! Definitely a great 1st time experience 🤩
I expected more tasty food, since many have recommended this restaurant as a local legend. It was ok, but the chicharrons plate recommended by the waiter was fairly inedible. It was supposedly pork, but later I found out that it is pork rind and fat fried until very done, and so it was just not good. The beans were decent. The actual restaurant was nice inside, and I enjoyed the local flair, but will have to think twice about returning for the food. Sorry :-(
Had to wait but totally worth it! Excellent service. And even more excellent food.
As always, Barelas never disappoints! Always our FIRST stop when we come home, have to have our Chile fix! Thank you for always being delicious!
Waited 30 minutes to be seated. About 4 groups of people were seated before us, even though we arrived before they did. The table that was originally prepared for my group was given to a group that arrived after us. The service was very poor. We were barely acknowledged the whole time.
Obama Approved. Everything on the menu is delicious and made fresh daily. Orders are delivered in a timely manner or quick. The owners' family are wonderful and friendly. The environment is welcoming and clean. Sometimes busy but worth the wait.
I love this place. There chile is really good . We started with fluffy tortillas and chicharrones with red Service is great too !
I ordered green chilli chicken enchiladas. I got soup. The rice was so disgusting it was soggy and very vomit like. The beans were very under cook. This was so horrible I complained to the manager and she acted like oh well. I have never in my life had such disgusting food. You can she the soupy oily disgusting enchiladas. This is an embarrassment to New Mexican food.
